As well as being so close to Venice, the island of Lido has been a link in the long chain of islands dividing the Adriadic Sea from the Lagoon: being a narrow strip of land squeezed between two different water systems makes the island excellent as a salubrious place to stay.
During his sojourns in Venice in the 1820, Lord Byron would come to the Lido as often as possible- just as many other poets and writers have done over the centuries (T.Mann's 1912 novel 'A death in Venice' was set in a famous island Hotel).
The island turned out to be a wonderful break from the crowds in Venice - a bit of serenity to go home to after a day of slogging through the sensory overload of venetian streets.  Lido offers open space, fresh air, and a relaxing change of scenery.
Stately Italian villas built in the early of 1900's, as the Villa Stella, are showcased along tree-lined boulevards.  With its 12 km beach extending the length of the island 's sea shore, Lido is actually the least crowded coastal resort of the Adriatic.  This makes it one of the best locations for those who are looking to enjoy a relaxed holiday atmosphere.

While in Venice, we highly recommend visiting some of the wonderful street-side cafes'.  We also recommend a to visit the Ancient Jewish cemetery, known as the 'House of Life', which has accommodated the remains of illustrious Jewish families for several generations.

Lido has always been the place where Venetians have gone to play sports: tennis, horseback riding, swimming, and windsurfing are just a few of the activities that you can enjoy.  Also, for those who enjoy golf, there is a wonderful 18 hole golf course 6 Km away from the Villa Stella.

The church and the Convent of S.Nicolò with the attached Renaissance cloister and the characteristic village of Malamocco whose canals, narrow streets and small squares recall Venice itself. Visitors eager to spend a day dedicated to discovery of these magical sites are advise to rent a bicycle.
